Handler Cargo brings Bournemouth customs facility in-house

BOURNEMOUTH Airport's cargo handling service, Cargo First, is bringing its on-site customs bonded warehouse facilities in-house, reports London's Air Cargo News.

Cargo First hopes that bringing customs operations in-house will speed up cargo processing by reducing handovers.

The handler was launched in April and now has complete control over the cargo process. The airport highlighted that processing speed is particularly important for ecommerce shipments.

The facility is positioning itself as a faster alternative to the congested London airport system.

"Our focus is speed to market and being a cost-effective alternative to the hub airports," said Cargo First cargo development head Bob Matharoo.

"Ecommerce continues to grow, and with it customer expectations around speed of delivery. Capacity at the big London hub airports is severely constrained, but we're not."

"We think that's a real opportunity for Bournemouth Airport and Cargo First, especially bearing in mind our location just 90 minutes from the capital," said Mr Matharoo.
