Ship from Vietnam by Sea Freight

For large shipments from Vietnam, the best way to ship is generally by sea freight (although land freight is also an option for shipping to neighboring countries).

If the shipment is not large enough to fill a full container, it would be considered a LCL (Less Container Load) shipment. If the shipment is large enough to fill a full container, it would be considered a FCL (Full Container Load) shipment.

For even larger shipments with special requirements, we can also ship via Bulk Cargo, Roro or OOG channels.

Shipments can be either to any major port in your destination country or all the way to your final address (available only for certain countries).

FAQs on Shipping by Sea Freight from Vietnam

Why Ship by Sea Freight?

Each year, the bulk of goods in global trade are transported by sea freight. It is the most commonly used mode of shipping. When shipping a large volume of goods, it is not cost effective to ship by air and more economic to ship by sea. Furthermore, with sea freight, it is also possible to ship goods that are considered sensitive to ship by air such as electronic products with batteries.

Why Ship by Sea Freight?
How large should a shipment be to make it worthwhile to ship by Sea Freight?

How large should a shipment be to make it worthwhile to ship by Sea Freight?

Normally, we recommend that a shipment be at least 2 CBM (Cubic Meters) in volume to make it worthwhile to be shipped by sea freight. There are minimum fixed costs involved in sea freight shipping whereby if the shipment is too small, it would not be worthwhile to ship by sea freight. Smaller shipments can be shipped by air courier express or air freight. For a 2 CBM shipment, we would ship by LCL (Less Container Load). For much larger shipments, we would ship by FCL (Full Container Load).

How large should a shipment be before shipping by Full Container Load (FCL)?

A 20 foot container typically has the capacity to fill 33 cubic meters (CBM) of goods. However, from a financial standpoint, we normally recommend a shipment is shipped via FCL (Full Container Load) if it is at least 15 cubic meters (CBM) in volume. There are many benefits to shipping as a full container, such as the fact that the goods will not need to be combined with goods from another consignee in the same container, smoother and faster customs clearance, and in the case of door to door shipping, the fact that the goods can be delivered to your address without waiting to have the container unloaded at the port, making the shipment time shorter than would be the case for an LCL shipment.

Which Port in Vietnam should I ship from?

Which Port in Vietnam should I ship from?

The busiest ports in Vietnam are the Port of Hai Phong (VNHPH), Port of Da Nang (VNDAD) and Port of Saigon (VNSGN). Which port we will ship from will depend on two factors. Firstly, it depends on which port is closest to your suppliers. Naturally, it would be most convenient to ship from the port that is closest to your suppliers. Secondly, it will also depend on the shipping rates from each port at that point in time. Unless you have a specific preference, we will try to choose the most economical shipping channel for you to help you save on shipping.
